Privacy Policy
Last updated: October 31, 2026
Lifeboat exists to keep your stuff safe, so we try to collect as little as we can and be clear about the rest. This policy explains what we collect, why, who helps us run the service, and the choices you have.
1. What we collect
- Account details: your email address and username, and your name and profile picture if you sign in with Google.
- Sign-in and security data: things like your IP address, browser, device, and sign-in times, used to keep your account secure.
- Payment details: if you buy a plan, Stripe handles your card. We get your plan, payment status, and a customer ID from Stripe. We never see or store your full card number.
- Your files and backups: the files, game saves, website backups, and social data exports you upload, plus their names, sizes, folders, and dates.
- Your password vault: stored only in encrypted form. It is locked with a key made from your master password on your device, and we never receive the master password, so we cannot read what is inside.
- Vault codes: when you open your vault we email you a one-time code. We keep a scrambled copy of the code for 10 minutes to check it.
- Waitlist email: if you join the waitlist, the email address you give us.
- Messages: anything you send us when you contact support.
- Family sharing: if you join or run a family, people in that family see your username, and files in the Family folder are visible to everyone in it. Your own files and passwords stay private.
- Public posts: posts you write on the News and feedback page, with your username. These are public, so anyone can read them until you or we delete them.
- Basic server logs: our hosting provider records technical details like IP address, pages requested, and time, to run and protect the site.
2. How we use it
- to run your account and your vault, including storage limits for your plan;
- to take payments and manage your subscription;
- to keep Lifeboat secure and prevent abuse;
- to send emails you need, like the codes that open your vault, your waitlist confirmation, and important notices about your account or these policies;
- to answer you when you contact us.
We do not sell your personal information, show you ads, or use advertising trackers.
3. Your files
- Your files are stored privately with our storage provider, Backblaze, in the United States, and are encrypted while stored there.
- Files travel to and from your browser over encrypted connections (HTTPS). Downloads use short-lived links that only work for you.
- Your password vault is end-to-end encrypted: only someone with your master password can read it.
- Your other files and backups are not end-to-end encrypted yet. That means our systems and our storage provider could technically access them. We do not look at your files except when needed to keep the service running, when you ask us for help, or when the law requires it.
4. Who helps us run Lifeboat
We share information only with the companies that provide parts of the service, and only what they need:
- Clerk: accounts and sign-in.
- Stripe: payments and billing.
- Backblaze: file storage.
- Vercel: website hosting.
- Resend: sending emails.
- Cloudflare: a security check (Turnstile) when you open the home page, the Feedback board, or your vault, and when you post. It looks at signals from your browser, like your IP address, to tell people from bots, and is not used for ads.
We may also share information if the law requires it, to protect someone's safety, or to investigate abuse. If Lifeboat is ever sold or merged, your information would move to the new owner under this policy, and we would tell you.
5. Cookies
We use only the cookies needed to keep you signed in, which are set by our sign-in provider, Clerk. We do not use advertising cookies or third-party analytics.
6. How long we keep it
- Files, backups, and your password vault stay until you delete them. Deleted files are removed from storage within a few days.
- Account details stay until you delete your account. When you ask us to delete your account, we delete it and your files within 30 days.
- Payment records are kept by Stripe and by us as long as tax and accounting laws require.
- Server logs are kept for a limited time by our hosting provider.
7. Your choices and rights
- View, download, and delete your files any time in your vault.
- Change your email, password, and sign-in options under Account and security.
- Ask us for a copy of your data, to correct it, or to delete your account by emailing support@lifeboatrecovery.com. We answer within 30 days.
- Depending on where you live, for example California, the EU, or the UK, you may have more rights over your data. We will honor them. If you are in the EU or UK, you can also complain to your local data protection authority.
8. Children
Lifeboat is not for children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect their information. If you believe a child under 13 has an account, email us and we will delete it.
9. Security
We use encrypted connections, private storage, short-lived download links, and separate areas for each account. No system is perfectly secure, so we cannot promise that nothing will ever go wrong, but if something serious affects your data we will tell you as the law requires.
Your information is processed and stored in the United States.
10. Changes to this policy
If we change this policy in an important way, we will email you or show a notice on the site before the change takes effect. The date at the top shows the latest version.
